Over the past 5 years, my husband and I have taken advantage of organizing our photos online through Shutterfly. In doing so, we learned about the super cool products that we could create using our photos to showcase our cherished memories.

After a recent post on our cocoons, it only makes sense to share a little about how swaddling can be beneficial to the newest members of this world. From newborn to around three or four months of age, swaddling can calm and comfort a baby by the coziness felt in the swaddler. I have to have a list for everything. One of those lists is SUMMER NECESSITIES. With a baby under 6 months and a new focus on natural and organic products for all my children, here's a portion of my list.

Well, the blog has been sitting stagnant for a few weeks now, but if you read our last post, you probably understand why. While in the middle of creating NewBornSerenity.com, we've also welcomed our third baby production. We've been working hard on adding more products to our site in between diaper changes, feedings, and a little bit of sleep. She is so sweet and super cute and we feel so blessed to have her join our family. Although we're still not getting much rest, she has added inspiration and motivation to provide you with the best, most unique baby gear in the market.

Prepping for the hospital

Among all the other uncertainties with having a baby lies one more…what to pack for the hospital. As I’ve just finished packing my suitcase for bambino #3, I thought I’d share some things I’ve learned. As they say, ‘third time’s a charm.’

Some necessities include: slippers, socks, robe, and your going home clothing. I’d recommend a comfy sweat suit that has a loose elastic band or a drawstring for you to adjust as needed. I’d also recommend a maternity top and a comfy zip up sweater jacket, if the weather permits. I prefer to bring two of these so when guests come the following day, I’m in comfy, not to mention fresh, clothing. I also have found having 1-2 pairs of pajamas always makes me feel a little better, getting me out of the frumpy hospital gown. (If interested, you can always purchase a more modern hospital gown, made of a more fashionable print.) Since I nurse, I always look for a v-neck top that is easily able to move from side to side. This time around, I’m bringing a gown (a gown made specifically for nursing) and a pant & top pj set. In the event of a c-section, a gown may be more appropriate to not irritate your incision. Don’t forget your regular toiletries that you’d normally pack for a hotel stay, and don’t count on a hair dryer, although some hospitals are starting to emulate that of a hotel more and more.

If dad plans to stay with you, pack a pair of pj’s for him and some clothing for the next day. My husband plans to shower at the hospital (to save himself an hour on the road travelling back and forth from home) and go to work. Again, he’ll need his regular set of toiletries as well.

As hospitals renovate, wi-fi is becoming more readily available and help you stay connected with the outside world while you do your time, so for this stay, we’ll be bringing our laptop. In addition, don’t forget to bring the video camera (after you’ve juiced it up), the camera (make sure you’ve got an extra set of batteries), and the phone charger.

And just when you think you’ve thought of everything, don’t forget about the baby!!! Pack at least one going home/picture outfit. I’d recommend two as I’ve heard of stories where the darling does a sweet duty and ruins the outfit…as if they were playing their first practical joke on you. Since we don’t know what we’re having, I’ve packed one boy specific outfit, one girl specific outfit, and one gender neutral outfit. There are some adorable ones out there, and I personally love when they have a little cap to go with. I also like when they have the feet in them already so you don’t have to worry about socks.

Getting the car seat ready is something I’d recommending doing about two weeks before baby’s expected arrival date. Make sure you’ve got the base secured. Some car companies will hold car seat safety events and install the base for you. It’s not that tough, but if you’re a first timer, it doesn’t hurt. Since we’re on our third go around with the same car seat, although it great condition, the material has seen better days and really isn’t that pretty to look at anymore. A simple solution is buying a car seat cover. There are many options out there, but after doing some research, I found some that are modern chic and has a matching blanket to go with.

It doesn’t hurt to have a diaper bag packed and ready to go as well. I’ve done a couple different kinds over the years, and this time around, I’ve decided to try out a diaper bag/purse. I like the idea of having everything I need with me at all times and never having to worry about forgetting the bag. Furthermore, the diaper purses are pretty hip and don’t even resemble the stereotypical diaper bag. Since my husband is out and about one his own with the babe from time to time, he recommends an ergonomically urban bag. He likes the idea of having something that doesn’t scream “I’m carrying a mom bag” and is able to keep it in the vehicle he drives the most.

Finally, if this isn’t your first babe, then there are a few things we think are important to remember for the siblings. We like to give them a little gift at the hospital after their baby brother/sister is born. We also have some adorable personalized tees for them to sport at the hospital and my oldest, a first grader, can’t wait to wear it to school either.
